Presenting William

The Maestro - Mr Stuart

Mr Stuart gave us a concert on the piano. He told us about the keys and showed us how the piano works inside. Mr Stuart has been playing the piano since he was 6 years old and he practised every day.

Playing the Drums

We have been very busy this week. The Drum Bus came to school and showed us how to play drums. We heard different styles of music like disco and hiphop. Some people got to try to play the drums. It would be fun to learn.

The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra at Te Papa

We went to see the orchestra today.
William G - I liked the violin because it was shorter and it had a higher sound.
Litania - I liked the double bass because of the low sound.
Braden- I liked the hippopotamus story. The music went lower and then higher.
Dante - The lady told us how the violin goes high and low.
Jacob -The viola is bigger than a violin, the cello was bigger and the double bass was the biggest!
Jamie - The french horn was really curly and it had a loud sound.
Krishan - The clarinet was a bit like the flute. You pressed the keys to make different sounds.
Did you know that most instruments get better as they get older but the clarinet doesn't. You have to buy a new one every few years.

Mrs Hurnen playing her flute.

Mrs Hurnen came to show us her flute. She told us how it worked and played tunes for us. We liked the sound it made.

Encore (Performing Arts)

We are going to make our own puppet show. We have lots to do! Our first step is to make our puppets. This is what we have done so far.....

Step 1
We had to screw up a ball of paper and tape it to the end of a stick. Then we ripped strips of paper and put them in paste then paste them over the ball to make a head.

Step 2
We made bumps for eyes and noses and ears and made sure the strips covered all the bumps so they won't fall off.

Step 3
We covered all the newspaper with white paper.

Keep an eye on our blog to see what we do next!
